Medicines in Slovenia are classified by their authorised conditions of supply. Prescription medicines require a valid prescription because diagnosis, monitoring or professional supervision is needed. Non-prescription medicines can be supplied without one, but their authorised place of sale and pack size still matter.
The pharmacist's role
The pharmacist checks the prescription, dose, interactions and safe use before dispensing. They may need to clarify an incomplete prescription or explain why a requested brand cannot be supplied. A non-prescription medicine is not automatically suitable for everyone; pregnancy, age, chronic illness and other medicines can change the advice.
Use eRecept instructions for prescribed medicines and ask the pharmacy about the current classification of a specific product.
