In Montenegro, authorised medicines are classified according to whether professional prescribing and monitoring are required. Prescription medicines need a valid prescription; medicines approved for non-prescription supply can be requested directly from a pharmacy.
The pharmacist checks safe use, interactions and dispensing conditions. Reimbursement by the Health Insurance Fund is a separate question from prescription status: a medicine can require a prescription without being fully reimbursed.
Ask the pharmacy or consult CInMED information for the current classification of a specific product. Non-prescription does not mean risk-free, especially for children, pregnancy, chronic illness or use with other medicines.
