Italy distinguishes prescription medicines from non-prescription products. Among non-prescription medicines, SOP products cannot be advertised to the public, while OTC products can; both still have authorised indications, doses and warnings.
Prescription status, NHS reimbursement and the type of prescription are separate matters. The pharmacist checks the prescription, safe use and any substitution rules. Some products require non-repeatable or special prescriptions.
Ask about the exact medicine and current classification. A product sold without prescription abroad may have different conditions in Italy.
